Jeff Berner is a producer, engineer, mixer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Brooklyn, NY. When he was five, he told his parents he wanted to be a used car salesman. 

Fortunately – for artists, as well as prospective car buyers – Jeff has been making records for the past nineteen years in instead. A skillful collaborator with the ability to work across genres, his CV reads like a cross-section of New York City music for the past two decades:  Psychic TV, Shilpa Ray, Activity, Haybaby, Naam, Stuyedeyed, Kurt Vile, Dead Stars, Weird Owl, Russian Baths, A Very Special Episode, Pharoahe Monch, White Hills, Somnuri, Boy George, Public Practice, Tony Conrad, Genesis P-Orridge, Gustaf, Lenny Kaye & Jessi Coulter, and many, many more.

In addition to studio work, Jeff has found time to perform and tour. Most notably, he spent 2009-2020 touring internationally and recording with Psychic TV/PTV3 as guitarist and background vocalist – co-producing, engineering, and mixing the records as well. Though record making has replaced large-scale touring these days, you can find him on bass and guitar at local New York shows with Shapes In Calgary, Chris Cubeta, Brush, Omer Leibovitz, Catty, Ov Stars, and others.

Berner’s recorded work has also appeared in several movies: Paper Towns, The Ballad Of Genesis And Lady Jaye, and Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliche.

Jeff has designed artist presets for Eventide’s Instant Flanger, Instant Phaser mkII, 949 Harmonizer, and Physion II plugins.

From 2017-2020, Berner worked closely with Trondertun folkehøgskole in Norway, hosting recording clinics to visting music production students stateside, eventually traveling to the school in early 2020 as a guest lecturer. Since the spring 2024 semester, Jeff has been a faculty member at SUNY Purchase, teaching masterclasses in Studio Production as a part-time lecturer.
